Dr. Poll Theerapappisit has been involved with the “Thai Coach” Discussion Group since its beginning in December 2012 and become a Co-Founder and Thai Coach Master since 2014. Venerable Phra Maha Wudhijaya Vajiramedhi (V.Vajiramedhi) was born on 29 January 1973, at Baan Krueng Tai, Tambon Krueng, Amphoe Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. He was ordained as a novice at Wat Krueng Tai when he was 14, and he was ordained as a Buddhist monk in his hometown temple when he was 21. In secular education, he graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Sukhothai Thammathirat University and earned a Master of Buddhist Studied from Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. He also ultimately attaining the very highest level of Buddhist knowledge, Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram.
After graduation, he is a visiting lecturer in graduate studies at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya. In addition, he is a guest-lecturer on topics in Buddhist studies at many institutions. He was notable clerical scholar, thinker and writer at that time with his famous novel series, so called as “Dhamma Tid Pik.” At present he has nearly 150 books in print. Some had been translated into foreign languages, and some adapted to be a script as the TV plays.
In 2007, he established the Vimuttayalaya Institute to promote and apply Buddhism. The Institute’s aims were to help solve social problems by the creation and promotion of global peace. In 2009, he established Rai Cherntawan World Peace Meditation Center, and also established website named www.dhammatoday.com, to help drive the propagation of Buddhism towards the world community, with emphasis on the Buddhist working philosophy for world peace.
In 2012 marks the 2,600-year anniversary of Buddhism. He established the World Peace Meditation Center as an institution to foster ‘Mahavijalaya of Buddhist Economics’. The Center is dedicated to education, research and meditation in the pursuit of world peace under the philosophy of “Economics as if Mindfulness Mattered.” The objective is the integration of mindfulness training into all manner of human activities and offers ‘Mindfulness Training’, the ‘middle way’, as an alternative for and route to mankind’s survival in the 21st Century.
Dr. Veerathai Santiprabhob is the 23rd Governor of the Bank of Thailand, with a five-year term starting on October 1st, 2015. He is a macroeconomist, strategist, and financial professional with more than 20 years of experiences in economic policy design, commercial banking, and capital market.
He began his career in 1994 as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC before serving as a co-director of the Policy Research Institute of the Thai Ministry of Finance during the 1997 Asian financial crisis. In 2014, Veerathai was appointed to be a member of the Bank of Thailand’s Board and Monetary Policy Committee. He has also been a member of the State-Owned Enterprise Policy and Supervisory Committee and was an advisor of Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI).
In private sector, Veerathai was a senior executive of Siam Commercial Bank, PCL and The Stock Exchange of Thailand. He held various positions at the boards of leading corporations, including Thanachart Capital PCL, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services PCL, Thai Airways International PCL, and Central Pattana PCL.
Veerathai received his B.A. (first class honors) in Economics from Thammasat University in 1988 and was awarded H.M. the King Bhumibol Adulyadej award for academic excellence. He went on to receive A.M. and Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1994. His graduate study was sponsored by H.M. the King's Anandamahidol Foundation.
Veerathai has actively participated in social activities. He has served as the treasurer of the Royal Initiative Discovery Foundation, a member of the executive board of the Buddhadasa Indapanno Archives, a member of the board of Mae Fah Luang Foundation, and a member of the board of the Thailand Sustainable Development Foundation. He was a member of the first Independent Expert Oversight Advisory Committee of the World Health Organization in Geneva and was awarded the Eisenhower Fellowship in 2013.
Dr. Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu received a doctorate in clinical and community psychology from Harvard University, and has taught at Harvard, The University of Tokyo, and Stanford University. He is a pioneering researcher in the field of narrative psychology on mixed race identity, multicultural counseling, and diversity in Japan and U.S. His current research is in assessment of mindfulness in promoting personal well being and social transformation. He is President of Nichibei Care, an organization promoting mental health in Japanese communities, and consults on inclusion, leadership, and community building.
Author of books, articles, and essays in Japanese and English, Dr. Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu writes about multicultural perspectives on mindfulness, identity, and citizenship.
